Day 5: Simplicity = Sanity
When I say “lift routine,” I am not talking about running out to buy three new workout outfits, signing up for a monthly gym membership, and completely reorganizing your schedule so you can squeeze in five hour-long workouts a week.
I am saying: start simple.
Because inviting all of that chaos into your life is a recipe for failure.
For this first week, my lift routine is simple and calming. I have two 15-pound dumbbells, one 10-pound dumbbell, and a yoga mat. That’s it.
I am not sweating through an intense HIIT routine that spikes cortisol and leaves my nervous system wired. I am doing a simple three-set lift. I rest in between. I stretch. I look at the jungle. I breathe. I even smile.
I aim for three morning workouts. But if something throws me off — like my sleepless, gassy night on day two — I adjust. I do it later when I feel better.
I let myself rest.
What a foreign concept that is.
But once you start allowing it, it feels oh so good.
On day three, after my morning rest, I ended up having a great workout that afternoon, when my body felt ready.
This is the gift of a simple home workout.
